Meet Leah! One of our dedicated challengers who has lost 20 lbs on her health & fitness journey!
What motivated you to join The Wholesome Way Challenge group?
After I graduated from college and started working, I knew it was time to make a change to try and be healthier. At work there is all kinds of temptation for bad eating with free food from vendors. I worked really hard for a year and my weight fluctuated for a while, but by my 1 year work-iversary I had lost a little less than 10 lbs. Nicole and I got to talking about health and nutrition and she asked if I wanted to try out a free 5 day slimdown, so I agreed. The rest is history!
Which challenges have you participated in and what was your experience, what did you learn, find easy or difficult?
I started with the Free 5 day slim down challenge and had great results. I lost a few lbs and inches and was excited to build on this momentum. The next challenge I joined was the 21 Day Challenge. Like the 5 day slim down challenge, I was provided with a new menu each week, a grocery list, and recipe book. The first round was the hardest because everything was new but the 2nd round was easier and I felt stronger each week. Once I achieved my "goal weight" I join the 4 Week Clean Eating Challenge where I got to explore new and healthy recipes and try different workout routines.
I’ve mostly learned how easy it is to eat clean, but it’s still difficult for me to fight cravings honestly! However, through this process I have learned at least how to ease cravings in a healthier way.
What results or changes have you and/or your family seen?
I’ve lost about 20 pounds in the course of the challenges and I’ve toned up and gained a lot of muscle back I used to have!! I dropped 2-3 pants sizes and I’m wearing medium tops in a lot of brands now instead of larges! My family and friends can definitely see the changes in me as well. It’s exciting to hear them say nice things about my progress, but I know I’m doing this more for me than others.
What nutritional and fitness changes have you made since the challenge?
I bring my lunch every day to work and workout at least 30 minutes every day. On my rest day, I try to make it active recovery, so I take my pup for a walk at least to get some steps in! I’m a lot more conscious about what I’m putting into my body. When I eat something that isn’t good for me, I definitely have a negative reaction.
What did you enjoy the most about your new health & fitness routine?
Having a routine is exactly what I like most. I also love the way I feel! I have so much more energy and love getting up to be active every day.
What would you tell someone who has never been in a challenge group before?
I would tell them that it’s definitely worth it. It isn’t a fad diet, it’s a lifestyle change and it will absolutely work for everyone. I would also tell them that patience is key!
So thankful to Nicole for helping me jumpstart the right way to lead a healthy lifestyle!
